# Interface: OpenAIResponsesMessageItem

An input message item — the leading-content-channel item shape (`role: 'user'`, or the leading
`developer`/`system`-role item rendered when `systemPromptChannel` is not `'instructions'`, or a
trailing after-timeline bucket message), plus a peer-identity assistant timeline turn rendered as
a plain input message rather than the full output-item shape.

## Remarks

`role: 'assistant'` is included — the wire's shorthand `EasyInputMessage` form accepts it for a
plain, non-native-output assistant turn (distinct from [OpenAIResponsesOutputMessageItem](OpenAIResponsesOutputMessageItem.md),
which is the full native-output shape used only when replaying the model's OWN prior turn).
